The Joey Jones Radio Show Returns To WNSP
Get ready to order up what has to be your favorite dish on the Baumhower’s menu, because the Joey Jones Radio Show is back. On Tuesday, the University of South Alabama announced that the radio show will begin its second season on August 25th.
The show will air live from Baumhower’s Wings Restaurant on Airport Boulevard, just like last season. It will feature interviews with Jaguars assistants and other various athletic department personnel and of course Coach Joey Jones and Lee Shirvanian. The program will air on WNSP 105.5FM during lunch from noon-1pm.
However, they will not be airing each week as in the previous season. The show will air on Tuesdays before Jaguar games as well as the August 25th and November 17th which is the Tuesday after the season finale. The airing dates are Aug. 25, Sept. 1, Sept. 22, Oct. 6, Oct. 13, Oct. 27, Nov. 3, Nov. 10 and Nov. 17.
Gary Saunders, Jaguars Sports Marketing General Manager remarked, “Baumhower’s Wings Restaurant in Mobile has been a supporter of University of South Alabama athletics for several years. Their three-year commitment to host the Joey Jones Radio Show is another example of the confidence they have in our first-year football program. We look forward to working with them on future Jaguar Sports Marketing/IMG College programs.”
CEO Bob Baumhower also had remarks to share about the deal. “We at Baumhower’s Wings Restaurant are happy to support the University of South Alabama and the athletic program,” Baumhower stated. “This year we are excited to once again host the Joey Jones Radio Show and support the inaugural season of Jaguar football. Coach Jones and his staff have put together a competitive team, and we are honored to be part of it.”
When you go to Baumhower’s, make sure to order by name. Ask for the “Joey Jones Special” which is the Black and White Chicken platter. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
Coach Jones Announces Higgenbotham From Alabama As Transfer
Coach Joey Jones got a transfer from a BCS school this past week. He announced on Wednesday that Charlie Higgenbotham has transferred from the University of Alabama to the University of South Alabama and will be eligible to play immediately.
He has spent the past three years at Alabama, one of them as a redshirt, and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining for the Jaguars.
Higgenbotham is listed as a 6′ 220lb linebacker from Birmingham, AL. He played under Coach Jones at Mountain Brook HS prior to enrollment at Alabama. As a member of the Crimson Tide he had 16 tackles, one sack in 24 appearances the last two years.
Off the field he has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll twice.
While at Mountain Brook, he averaged 10 tackles per game for three years. His final year there he was ranked 38th among linebackers by Rivals.com, chosen first-team all-metro by The Birmingham News and honorable mention all-state selection by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
The Jaguars begin preseason practice on Tuesday, August 4th with their first-ever game in school history scheduled to kickoff at 4pm Saturday, September 5th (34 days away) at Ladd-Peebles Stadium against Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy.
Coach Jones’ Radio Show on the Air
It may not be ‘Hey Coach’ but it does have a familiar location. Coach Joey Jones started his weekly radio show on August 27th with Lee Shiravain and 105.5FM WNSP. The show takes place live at Bob Baumhauer’s Wings Restaurant on Airport Boulevard.
For those Alabama fans out there, that should seem familiar to you. I have listened to several episodes on the radio with Coaches DuBose, Stallints, Franchione, Shula and now with Coach Saban (Not all of them at Wing’s thought). Unfortunately it aires at Noon each week so it doesn’t sound like its going to foster a whole lot of fandom until the Jags actually hit the field in 2009. But Jaguar fans can be a tenacious bunch so I will have to attend an airing to take it in for myself to see.
But besides Coach Jones, it will have members of the Jaguar coaching staff and other assorted guests and numerous giveaways throughout the season. If you cannot make the show live, you can listen to the broadcast on 105.5 and call in with questions or comments.
