USA Softball Moves Up One Spot In Polls, Debuts At #7 In RPI Rankings
The South Alabama softball team continues their methodical march up the polls this week as they moved up another position.
The 25-3 Jaguars moved up to #12, their highest ranking ever in the program’s history, in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 but remained at #13 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll. They are the second highest ranked team from the state of Alabama, behind the University of Alabama who are ranked 7th in the USA Today poll and 5th in the ESPN.com poll.
Auburn is the only other school in the state ranked in the top 25 with a 22nd place in the USA Today and a 21st position in the ESPN.com poll. Also, the only other member from the Sun Belt Conference in the top 25 is Louisiana-Lafayette who is 20th in the USA Today poll and 22nd in the ESPN.com poll.
But they have an even higher ranking in the NCAA Softball RPI rankings. The Jags are currently ranked 7th in the nation among NCAA Division I teams. They hold wins over a number of teams currently or previously ranked in the top 25 this season, including a 3-2 win over then ranked 13th (USA Today/NFCA poll) that currently holds the #1 ranking in the RPI.
The Jags are the highest ranked Sun Belt team with ULL coming in at 20th, WKU 67th, Troy 84th, Texas State 96th, Georgia State 97th, UT-Arlinging 108th, ULM 157th.
The University of Alabama holds the #2 spot in the RPI to be the highest ranked team in the state, USA is next and followed by Auburn 21st, UAB 32nd, Troy 84th, Jacksonville State 106th, Samford 113th, Alabama State 283rd and Alabama A&M 284th.
USA will travel to face Alabama in Tuscaloosa on April 2nd at 6pm. But before then they have a game this evening at Troy followed by a weekend series at home against ULM.
