Arkansas State QB Ryan Aplin Named To Walter Camp Watch List
Arkansas State senior quarterback Ryan Aplin was named to the Walter Camp Award Watch List heading into the 2012 season. Aplin is also on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List, the Manning Award Watch List and the Davey O’Brien Award Watch List.
In mid-November, the list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists. The award is voted on by the 124 NCAA BCS head coaches and sports information directors and will be announced live on ESPN on December 6.
Aplin completed just under 64% of his passes last season for 3,588 yards and 19 touchdowns and was named the 2011 Sun Belt Conference player of the year. He also led his team in rushing with 588 yards and 10 touchdowns. ASU won the SBC Championship with a perfect 8-0 record and 10-3 record overall.
The Red Wolves lost their head coach to Ole Miss and former Auburn Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn was hired as his replacement. Malzahn instrumented the offense that helped Cam Newton win the 2010 Heisman Trophy and helped Auburn win a national title. This kind of athelticism lends itself very well to his unique offense.
